I never really discovered the blogging world until I really started to get into wedding photography. I did attempt a travel blog when I studied abroad in Argentina, but that over after about 4 month apart posts. None of my friends blog, which is also discouraging. If I had lots of blogging friends we would share our posts and comments. Anyways, now I blog, kinda. I thought I would blog a ton about culture and life here in this “foreign” land, but really, I’m already used to it. I have a post about my hometown, a post about a trip, and a post about my bedroom. I guess I can say I am not very focused. The thing is, I don’t really LOVE one thing, I like tons of things. I’m also scatter brained and think of 3 great ideas for posts but then think of something else before I ever sit down to write the first one. I’m a bad blog follower because I’m not really into one type of blog. I guess I can narrow it down though by saying I don’t like tech, news, or political blogs.

Here are a few of my favorites, and I really do mean “few”, I don’t follow as many as I would like.

Wedding Blog:

Green Wedding Shoes: www.greenweddingshoes.com

Green Wedding Shoes is among about 8 other wedding blogs that inspire me. There is something new, unique and beautiful everyday. The photography is top of the line excellence, making me want to get better and better. The wedding on the site are also super creative.

Expat Blog:

Glocal Girl: www.glocalgirl.com

This girl is from Northern California, just like me. She is living in Amsterdam with her Dutch boyfriend. And, unlike many expat blogs I have come across, she is young, not married, and doesn’t have kids… three more things we have in common. I’ve come across many interesting blog, but this one is one of the only ones I follow regularly. Why is that? What make me come back to blog? For one thing, her posts are short and simple. I have the attention span of a 2 year old, so short is good and pretty pictures in every post are even better. They also range in topic, from random expat experiences to her favorite creative links. I follow her on twitter which reminds me when she has a new post up, so I never forget to click over to her side of cyber space. She updates almost everyday, keeping things fresh. She is also not one of those heavy traffic sponsored blogs, so I feel like her posts are real and my comments are read and appreciated.

If you want to find other good expat blogs, you can browse by country at this Expatriate Blog Directory. There are tons with bunches of great information. And if you are interested in other gringas in Chile like me, I have a few linked right over there —-> in the right hand panel.

Creative Blogs:

The Everyday Minimalist: www.everydayminimalist.com

Oh how I wish I was more of a minimalist than I am. I think I’m doing pretty good now though after having moved across the world with 2 suitcases. Again, this blog holds my attention and interest because it is short and simple. It is informative and to the point in each post. The bullets, font color and size changes all keep me focused on the point. There are lots of pictures to go along with what she is talking about. I also love how she uses herself as an example and shows us her stuff instead of trying to give abstract examples. I also follow her on twitter.. keeping updated not only with her new posts, but with personal updates as well. She has a sister blog called Fabulously Broke in the City which is also about spending money wisely.. also a hobby of mine.

Apartment Therapy: www.apartmenttherapy.com

Most people have heard about this blog, and if you have heard about it, you probably love it. They update daily and never run out of new things. Even if they didn’t update, you could go through the old posts for hours and hours. The photography on the site is excellent. They also compile lists of best posts, right now they are doing a best of each month from this year, but usually every week that have top posts of the week, perfect for when you forget to check in that week. They also have a few sister blogs with topics such as the Kitchen and Green living.

Honestly, that’s all I’ve got for you today. Like I said, I’m a bad blog follower. I could go off and list all the blogs I have bookmarked, but I wanted to share ones that actually have me coming back.

Posts that may or may not be coming up:

My Trip to Uruguay, The Best of Wedding Blogs, my experience fostering puppies, a series on possible Culture Shock topics when moving to Chile, making friends as an expat in Chile

So I just watched this CNN video by Anderson Cooper showing the suffering of seagulls due to the oil spill.

The comments that followed showed sadness and anger blaming BP for the suffering and death of tons of innocent animals. This only made me think of how much other stuff goes on to innocent people and innocent animals that Anderson Cooper doesn’t cover. How can we blame BP for its accident when we are buying products from China where the suffering they cause from their pollution is NOT accidental? Why don’t we stop buying caged chicken eggs and hormone enhanced chicken meat? Seriously, the conditions of those chickens are as horrible as those seagulls covered in oil, and guess what folks, its on purpose, 100% preventable, but its not in the media.

Look at THESE pictures. The pollution in China is deforming and killing PEOPLE.. not just animals and its all basically for us consumers. Not to mention all the suffering farm animals that I’m sure most of you have already seen videos of but choose to forget. And the recent documentary about the dolphin slaughtering that is going on in Japan. What about the dogs that are suffering on the streets of Chile because of human’s irresponsibility? (I don’t even want to post a picture of that)

All of these examples don’t even include the genocides and wars that are going on ON PURPOSE!

Okay, just wanted to prove my point that maybe the world ending in 2012 is a better result for it than what we can do to it in the next few years.

I have liked electronic music since I lived in France in 2007, it all started with the Destination Calabria beat (seen below). Now it seems like the trend is growing pretty quickly in the U.S…. finally!! Songs like Rock That Body and Bulletproof are really popular on the radio and they are both definitely not like previous popular music. I like both.. and wonder: how are the Black Eyed Peas so consistent! The huge campus music festival (Sun God) has always had a dance tent; my freshman year: like 25 people, last week: full to capacity and closed down because of crazy pushing. But I’m wondering if it becoming popular will ruin it for me? Live DJ shows are a very different experience. Seeing a DJ outside of the U.S. is definately a nicer experience.. Monster Massive on Halloween last year in LA was miserable and wayyyy too crowded; I felt like cattle getting pushed though gates. But I did see Armin Van Buuren, only my most favorite DJ ever. Seeing Tiesto in Santiago last December was so much of a better experience, less crowding and more energy, and for some reason I preferred Tiesto to Van Buuren. Next on my list: David Guetta!
