All County Insurance - Brea, California - Great pictures! I was doing the same thing in Quito, Ecuador about a year ago. I was actually taking some pictures on my first day of about 10 dogs that were living at this outside laundry mat — moments later my camera was stolen by a man with a knife, so sadly i don’t have those pictures anymore.
As I headed south of Quito, I still had another camera and took many pictures of dogs and I too, got stares from the locals. It was interesting how a lot of dogs were on the roofs of buildings. One thing that really made the people of Ecuador look at me like I was crazy was when I fed a street dog some of my food from a restaurant, they almost looked mad, as if the dogs didn’t deserve it and the food was reserved for humans only. Very interesting how different cultures treat dogs.
elisajoy - i adore the first picture! so precious. great pics!!
GAiquel - hey! since you are in Chile, and love dogs, maybe you should go to Valparaíso. Lots of beautiful landscapes and , sadly, lots of stray dogs.

harkheindzel - Beautiful pictures with wonderful dogs. I love em
Taylor David - Great shots Lana, I knew you would make it big some day! Now step it up and get some “high risk” photography shots haha
LanaRenee - But if I fall in the water.. I can die in miliseconds! and I havent necessarily made it big quite yet.. haha
Stacy - Beautiful photos!
The Modern Nomad - The best thing about all of Chile’s strays (more than nearly any other country I’ve been to in South America) is that they’re all super friendly! Chileans don’t give them a lot of attention, and if you pat one on the head then you’ll soon have ten swarming around you asking for a scratch behind the ears or a scrap of meat!
Greetings from Punta Arenas! Our Plaza has a resident pack of about 65 dogs of all shapes and sizes
Pat
LanaRenee - How do the dogs even survive down there in Punta Arenas.. how miserable cold.. poor guys!
And yes.. they are friendly.. my two pet dogs are ex street dogs.. though once you take them in they get territorial and are not so friendly any more.
The Hook - Beautiful shots!
Tracy - Your photos are GORGEOUS – and I thought I was the only gringa who loved to photograph street dogs. My husband’s Salvadoran family thought I was a little cuckoo. LOL.
Angie - I heart puppy photos.
manchester plasterer - beautiful pictures, the eyes on huskies are out of this world. great job
Tropical Fish - These are some amazing photos! Good luck on the rest of your ventures and looking for weddings etc. to shoot for! I am impressed
mashgula - These pictures are amazing, all those dogs are lovely!
Unfortunately, we have lots of stray dogs in Chile and most people don’t look at them the way you do. They’re really friendly and I wish I could take them home with me
Keep shooting beautiful pictures!
Greetings from Stgo.
tyler91b - Great work! Just as an idea 5th down might look cool in black and white and high contrast. But again very nice work I love dogs to, just wish I had more to photograph.
ana maria - Que coisa mais lindaaaa….
SpinnyLiberal - I LOVED this. Your pictures are great. I can’t wait to hug my Diggy now.
LanaRenee - I haven’t gotten the time to mess around with them yet, but when I do, Ill definitely try the black pup in B&W
RobloxAmbassador - Love the Baby Dogs!
fearfuldogs - I like the scruffy terrier mix you woke up.
Happy.Bark.Days - Beautiful compositions! The 8th picture down from the top really emanates a dog’s life – eat, sleep, and be merry. I love taking pictures of my puppy, Miss Little Red Maple Leaf (who has her own blog…lol), but my photography skills aren’t quite as impressive. Keep up the good work.
creativeconfessions - So adorable! =)
sixthirtythree - Aw sweet. They all look happy or inquisitive.
Nicolás - Lovely pictures!
I am Chilean, and yes, we do have a lot of dogs, both pets at home and stray dogs on the streets. Really few people take the time to see the magic the street dogs have, they’re quite witty and, if treated nicely, grateful and forever loyal.
Saludos desde Santiago!
acleansurface - I always enjoy groups of photos with a single theme. Nice job.
Ankit Chauhan - Wonderful pictures! Hard to decide which one is the best.
dogstale - I love my spanish k9 friends from down south, great photos!
labbys - a very nice blog
Soenarto - wow, very nice, i like this, thanks
whenquiet - On our way from Manduria to Nardo last summer, a bundle of “something” stumbled onto the highway. I told my husband, “You have to go back!” He zipped the car in reverse. I jumped out and whipped up a beautiful little bundle of black and white fur…a puppy(maybe four weeks old)…As I cuddled him(poor thing) and pleaded with my husband that we adopt him, we heard muted whimpers from the adjacent field. My husband and I gathered five more abandoned puppies. A car pulled over and out stepped two men. I was already in love with my black and white that I named Sojo(after Sojourner Truth, the female African American abolitionist) because he ventured out past fear. Sojo realized that he had to step out on faith in order to save his life and the life of his family.
The men took the other puppies and I pleaded until my husband gave in. We purchased a portable dog house, food, medicine and returned to our bed and breakfast. One of the bed and breakfast owners happened to be a vet and gave us parasite medicine. The other owner, however, was not too thrilled about a puppy being on the property. Sojo whimpered and cried all night, every night. The vet suggested we turn him over to a a dog shelter where he would probably be reunited with his brothers and sisters. Unhappily, I had to accept that I would have to let this dog go.
Until this day, I think about Sojo and his courage.
Thank you for your post. Your photos are beautiful!!

natiaranguiz - in chile you can find a multitud of dogs living in streets. the sad news is the sobrepoblation poblation in cities.
we should adopt those dogs but the normal chilean culture about pets is that we “want” have dogs races more that the “others”.
the “solution” of the government, the church (catholic) and some people is kill the dogs.

Jan - Thanks for the post and thanks for the nice photographs!
kristinawebb - Beautiful shots. I’m sure, were I there, people would think me a “crazy gringa” as well. There’s no way I’d be able to resist taking photos of those dogs.
didiwright - Beautiful photos of gorgeous dogs. As a dog blogger how can I not like them, right? The strays are just fabulous, there’s something special about them that shouts :”Take me home!”. Nice work!
Lydia - So beautiful, i love dogs from the street..
Pilar - I agree with everybody, lovely pictures, adorable dogs! great post!
fran barrera - I love your pics, I love my country (Chile)
Hope you enjoy the trip; don’t stop shooting pics
big kisses!

San-Draw - Speechless…I am a dog lover…and it’s incredible how by looking at each one of your pictures took my breath away!! Saludos desde Mexico!!
LanaRenee - I started my love affair with street dogs in Mexico.. I have photos of me at age 7 with the stray beach dogs in Puerto Vallarta. And I have some shots with my old film camera in black and white of the ones in the Plaza in Acapulco. I love Mexico.. I’d love to shoot a wedding there!
LanaRenee - Thanks for sharing my post Ed!
LanaRenee - It’s not really a happy thing to see the dogs here.. but I hope you can give a few a some attention while you are here. Feel free to add me on facebook for when you come down!

soria1shepherd - It’s nice to know that I’m not crazy for taking so many pictures of my dog. That lil pup layin next to the plant is pretty dang cute
inidna - Ah! I love this–I really really love this
I’ve always been a huge dog person and I’ve never been able to have one (or two) until now and I’m so glad I got them. As a person that lives in Cambodia surprisingly there are a lot of dogs still roaming around the street (this region is notorious for … well, using dogs for different purposes. i.e. food). They’re all so adorable and I wish I had as great skills as you to capture them so well. I want the little black one and the one in the first photo! Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
BitBurn - I totally love dogs too. Your pics are very nice, not wasting your time at all, keep ‘em coming!
I have enormous admiration and respect for dogs. They are the most loyal of all animals. Dogs rule!!!
analyfe - These dogs are all gorgeous! Great photography too!
eeshanicus - Very nice pics!
I should say you captured their daily lives… :-p
psychodoodle - very nice… I love taking pics of dogs and cats myself.. and yes I too get get the looks
they are awesome subjects…
amecam - So cute. I love them
Svetkarin - Aww, I love dogs so much. Thank you for sharing such lovely pictures!
Heidi Meinzer - Thank you for the warning that it is not all happy, and the invitation to friend you when I come. My friend there and I served in the Peace Corps in Albania — not a great place to be a stray dog. I ended up adopting one and bringing her home, spending 13 1/2 lovely years with her!
chbreinb - I`m not really a dog person, but I`m chilean, and when I saw these cities names on the front page of wordpress, I clicked and visited. It`s a nice work you do photographing these dogs and “quiltros”. Cheers!!
Patricia Gomez - Lana, I´m chilean and I love dogs, well, I love any animals, but the thing that most take my atention is the look of them. In most of your picture you can see it. I hope the sensibility grow up and people learn to see more than a nice and sweet face. It is so important to show that the need care, a simple, “caricia”, i dont know that word in english. Any way, congratulation for your work.
english courses egypt - i like the black baby dog. am really hope to have one.
Lisa - Hey Heidi,
Thanks for sending me this link. Yes, there are plenty of strays here as in Albania, as you say, but there is one thing going for them here and that’s that….up til’ now…I haven’t seen anybody be cruel to them as we saw so often there. And it’s true what another poster said about them being very sweet and friendly. They’ll actually trot alongside you as if you’re walking them. It’s cute. Byt it would be so much better if they had a loving home they could depend on for food, care and medical attention, if needed.
Chao from Chile,
Lisa
lare flair - Make a Calendar of Chilean dogs! and let me know when it’s up for sale
Teguh Bayu - i like the black baby dog. am really hope to have one. thx yu
Hannah - awww, how sweet!! i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE dogs. i just wish i had one!
the husky’s eyes are so enchating. i think huskies have the most beautiful and mysterious eyes, out of all the breeds.

LanaRenee - Yeah it is.. and stray too.. crazy huh?
LanaRenee - Hey Matias.. I sent you an email…
LanaRenee - Thanks Gary! I sent you an email!
LanaRenee - Haha.. sounds good.. except I’m thinking I could probably fill it with strays from lots of countries.. I already have photos from Greece, Mexico, Chile, and Costa Rica.
LanaRenee - Muchas gracias! Si es verdad.. es muy raro en Chile respectar los perros.. pero tambien, no estan tratados tan malos tampoco. Me encantaría conectar con gente en Santiago.. mi facebook es Lana Renee Puckett!
caracato - Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Your photos do a great job capturing the expression on each dog’s face. I feel like I can really see their emotions through the photos.
Alexander Chamas - I’m a big fan of your work. I am a first generation Chilean American living in Seattle. I just came back from visting my family in Vina del Mar, Chile and my mother and I took a trip to the south. Check out my latest portraits!
belovegivelove - Aww! Those are amazing photos, and all those dogs are so cute! Are they all strays that you found randomly like that or did you set up all the poses and scenes?
1cruzdelsur - Lana, muy buen trabajo con tus fotografías, a mi también me agradan los perros, allí mi amiga Patricia te hizo un comentario, yo soy de Argentina y te paso un link de mis sueños con los perros…

Alexis Jenny - Are these just stray dogs there? They are so adorable! I would end up taking them all home with me.
LanaRenee - I didn’t set up anything.. all of them were just as they were. Most were strays but some where outside of their house.
LanaRenee - Yep, most were just strays, some were outside of houses that probably feed them, but they didn’t have collars or anything.
Setria James - These are some very nice photos!
kalsoledad - I studied abroad in Valparaiso, Chile and this post makes me miss all those vagabond dogs so much! I’m glad someone is giving them some attention
Outdoor Furniture and Accents - Great pics!!! Let’s hope they all have good homes.
robcharris - Wow! I love pictures of dogs!
positivepettraining - Thank you for sharing your amazing photos!
tutankhamon661 - Well you did. I enjoyed.
Colin Stapp Photography & Video - Loved all the photos. Great composition and colors.
thorsaurus - Since they are dogs and it’s Chile, does that make them “Chili Dogs”? Great pics. I really like the husky and the little black puppy. All very cute.
inflatables - hello ,you are very good.i enjoyed.
Elena - hi… beautiful pictures.I like the the first picture the best.I am from Iran. After looking at this picture I remember the very beautiful story of (Companions of Cave) in the Holy Quran and also the dog in that story.Have you heard that beautiful story?
Hellen Mar - Good tips – thanks for sharing!
Daniela - That is what I call a lovely “QUILTRO ” collection! (Chilean slang for dogs with no pedigree…) Quiltros are a real institution in Chile, my family adopted one, Valentino, and he is the king of the house. Keeping him was the best thing we could have done!
foodvixennyc - These photos are awesome! All these dogs look absolutely adorable, I want to take them all home. You’ve captured their best qualities.
Lili - Great pictures. The first is the best. The black dog is so cute!
Maravillosas fotografías. La primera es la mejor. ¡El perro negro es tan bonito!
colin L Beadon - Lana All the dogs you have chosen, seem very well fed and looked after. You should come and photograph some of the starving strays in Barbados.
You have a great site. Latin America is full of surprises so much unseen. I loved the Andes in Venezuela and the children selling primroses, small crisp carrots, and peaches up in the high highways with their deep valleys and trout streams.
countoncross - Great pictures!!!! What great shots. -Thank you.
Love the site.
pleasebekindrewind - I love your photos – so beautiful! I like the way you capture the love between the people. Also the ones of dogs are so endearing!
The Modern Nomad - Most of the street dogs here have a lot of husky blood in them…they’ve got fur like bears. There’s this one blackish grey one that is about the same size. He’s a hunk; I feed him the ends of my completos…you know, that dry bit of bun that tastes like cardboard.
Ah, the trick is to adopt only one! haha! If you get a second you should get a puppy, which also isn’t hard in Chile…just check behind all the dumpsters or in the bushes and you’ll find a nursing mother eventually! haha!
bhel - dogs are so cute!! love your photos.
Kim - I love dogs too! Great collection of shots.
