My KHS: Bike shopping on San Diego (street, not California)

So about a month and a half ago I got my new baby.. aka a new bike. I’ve never owned a new bike. I even had my dad’s old bike in college and when I was finished with it the antique gears didn’t work so I left it unlocked on campus with hopes that someone would find it and love it like I did. Pablo and I went to a street called San Diego here in Santiago to look for new bikes and only one store had KHSs. They cost the same they do in the US and here there is no sales tax, so it was cheaper than buying in the US. However, in the US I would have bought a used one off craigslist because buying new is just stupid, so I guess bike buying is reason #413 why Santiago is not cheaper than the US even though the salary is tripled in the US.

Anyways, I got this bike:

So all was great until about a month of use. Pablo was riding and jumped a curb, landed in a hole, and bent the front wheel frame so it was wobbly. Then he was ringing the new “I heart my bike” bell that I had on it so hard that he broke that. Oh yeah, and the back tire went flat but we filled it up, so some mornings I wake up and its flat and other mornings it keeps air. So we went back to San Diego were they fixed the bent wheel. The next day the gears on the left weren’t working. I blame Pablo for that too. So with our great bike tech skills we fixed that.

Buying a new bike thinking it will be perfect= fail. I’ve seriously never had so many problems with a bike before. I don’t blame KHS though, I blame the person who put the bike together and Pablo of course. It’s working fine as of now, so we’ll see how long that lasts.

And a quick weather update… it’s sooo warm and I’m loving it. Right now its 5pm and weather.com says its 81 degrees outside. Seriously, I’m loving wearing the Rainbows.

WeddingPhotoChile.com - lol too funny…yeah your right to blame the guy who bulit the bike if its not set up and functioning properly but dont blame Pablo for the wheel, blame the municipality for putting the hole in the road !! (Pablo- you owe me one ! )

Patty - Excuse me, you had a new bike when you were 5….

Jeanenne - That is a mountain bike with shocks, so there is no reason why jumping a curb and landing in a pot hole should do any type of damage to the front wheel frame. A bike like that, if put together correctly, should easily be able to handle street commuting use. So don’t blame pabdads, blame the crappy store that you bought it from who assembled it, and maybe substituted in cheap parts.
